About Susie Thearle
If you are a cryptic crossword fan you may have spotted that The Real Issue is an anagram of Susie Thearle! Susie has over 25 years experience in the accounting public practice environment in Canberra and Central Queensland.
She began her career as a statistical research officer for the Australian Bureau of Statistics on completion of a Bachelor of Economics from the Australian National University. After six years in this role, she began her second career – that of mother to three children.
- SMSF Specialist – SMSF Association
- Registered SMSF Auditor - ASIC
- Chartered Accountant – Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
- Chartered Taxation Advisor – The Taxation Institute
- Registered Tax Agent – Australian Taxation Office.
Susie commenced a Masters in Accountancy when her youngest child was 18 months old. She completed this with a Distinction average in the minimum time, before embarking on her third career as an accountant, in 1991.
After working for several chartered accounting firms, she became a Partner on January 1, 2003, and in October 2006 Susie established The Real Issue Pty Ltd to specialise in SMSFs.
Over her years in practice, Susie has developed an interest in, and passion for, superannuation, and in particular, Self Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs). She has undertaken specialist training and has also completed the relevant units to become PS146 compliant (meaning she is also a qualified financial planner although chooses not to be one). She is accredited as an SMSF Specialist Auditor and Advisor with the SMSF Association, the peak body for SMSF professionals.
Susie has also been invited onto the ATO’s Working Group for SMSF Auditors and provides practical feedback from a practitioner’s point of view during this time of change.
In 2008, Susie relocated her business to Central Queensland, and is now based in Yeppoon. The Real Issue continues to offer auditing support Australia-wide, through web-based solutions and coaching.
